Duration: 4 hours

If you¬’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair¬—and take a city tour in a classic VW van! The restored 1971 vehicle affectionately named ¬‘Lillie¬’ zips you around the City by the Bay to see famous areas including the Sutro Baths, Twin Peaks, Alamo Square and Lombard Street. Reminisce about classic vinyl in Haight Ashbury, nibble on chocolate in Ghirardelli Square and check out artifacts from Playland at the Beach. This small-group tour is limited to six people, ensuring a wild trip full of great memories and photo ops.

At your selected time, your local guide will pick you up at your downtown San Francisco hotel or designated meeting point for a funky, 4-hour trip around the city. Hop in the authentic VW bus called 'Lillie' to explore the metropolis that stretches seven miles by seven miles (11 km by 11 km). Named after Lillie Hitchcock Coit, benefactor of the iconic Coit Tower, the cherry-red van epitomizes counterculture cool much like its namesake did in the late 1800s, when ¬‘Firebelle Lil¬’ dressed in trousers, smoked cigars and gambled in North Beach establishments typically only open to men.

Think of the wild woman as you pass the beautiful Coit Tower, a monument that came to fruition thanks to the estate she left to the city when she passed away. The bustling neighborhood of North Beach is just one of 14 districts that you explore on this trip. Check out the zigzags of Lombard Street, admire the Painted Ladies in Alamo Square and dive into the history of the Sutro Baths ruins, once dubbed the world¬’s largest indoor swimming pool.

You'll groove to tunes from the Summer of Love as you road trip along routes that afford terrific photo ops of the Golden Gate Bridge, Twin Peaks and Alcatraz. You'll also learn about how earthquakes, the Gold Rush and the rise of Silicon Valley helped shape this innovative city into a world-class destination.

Pass around vintage admission tickets to the beloved Playland at the Beach in the backseat in Ocean Beach; reminisce about vinyl records in Haight Ashbury; and enjoy samples of treats such as Ghirardelli chocolate and fresh sourdough bread from Boudin at Fisherman¬’s Wharf. You might even forget you're on a sightseeing tour as you melt into Lillie's overstuffed bench seats and chat about the old-school mementos with fellow passengers. Your guide can answer questions that you have about the attractions along the way.

Finish your alternative route to sightseeing around San Francisco back at your hotel, or selected location. By the end of this guided, small-group tour, you'll be hip to the city¬’s vibrant history, and you'll surely have some interesting stories to share!

$69.99

San Francisco at Night: Segway Tour of North Beach, Chinatown and the Embarcadero Picture

This product rates na out of 5 stars

Duration: 2.5 hrs

When the sun goes down in San Francisco, a twinkling display of lights keeps the city glowing throughout the night. While a brisk stroll is one way to admire this nightly light show, why not cover more ground on a Segway tour of Chinatown, North Beach and the Embarcadero? It¬’s a rare opportunity to take this two-wheeler on the streets of some of San Francisco¬’s most famous neighborhoods after dark. Your guide keeps you, family and friends on track with fun trivia and facts about the sights you pass, and there are plenty of stops to take photos along the way.

Join a troupe of Segway riders on Beach Street, along Fisherman¬’s Wharf, to gear up for your evening ride with a 40-minute safety orientation. Along with a helmet and safety vest, you¬’ll get hooked up with a radio device so you don¬’t miss any of your guide¬’s commentary along the way. Once you and your fellow riders feel comfortable on your two-wheelers, hit the streets to see Chinatown, North Beach, Fisherman¬’s Wharf and the Embarcadero lit up at night. It¬’s a great way to see the city in a new light!

Depart from Beach Street to head up to North Beach, or what locals consider the city¬’s Little Italy. The streets are flanked by bustling Italian restaurants, with the scent of authentic warm dishes wafting from the doorways. Imagine the Beat poets and artists who once roamed the neighborhood as your guide shares history about the counterculture movement at Washington Square Park by Saints Peter and Paul churches.

Next, cruise over to nearby Chinatown, one of the city¬’s oldest neighborhoods. Along the lantern-lit streets, you can peer into dim sum houses, admire temples, and appreciate souvenirs that dangle from windows and spill over display tables. If you visit in mid-winter, expect to see festive decorations in honor of the Chinese New Year.

From Chinatown, head east toward the waterfront to take in the Bay Bridge, which appears to be dressed in tinsel; it¬’s actually a light sculpture known as Bay Lights. Continue along the Embarcadero past the Ferry Building to Fisherman¬’s Wharf for a look at the historic piers and harbors. Follow your guide off the beaten path to see Fish Alley, Fisherman¬’s Chapel, a WWII Liberty ship, and the Pampanito submarine. Listen carefully: You might even hear the sharp crack of a Dungeness crab shell at one of local stands.

End your tour on a sweet note with a trip to the cheerfully lit Ghirardelli Square to learn more about how the famous chocolate is made. Then head over to the National Maritime Museum for a chance to take photos in front of the fleet of historic sailing ships berthed at Hyde Street Pier.

Here, pause to take in the nighttime views of Alcatraz before ending your Segway tour.

Enter a new world as you embark on an urban hike through the historic Presidio in San Francisco. Following your expert guide, wander through groves of pine, cypress and eucalyptus trees as you explore the highlights of this historic park and former military post. Visit San Francisco National Cemetery, stroll down Lover's Lane and the Ecology Trail, soak up views of Alcatraz and the Palace of Fine Arts from Inspiration Point, and stop by Presidio Chapel. Great for outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs, this tour is the perfect balance of interesting history, stunning scenery and a feel-good workout.

Your morning or afternoon tour starts at the bottom of the Lyon Street Steps on the cusp of San Francisco¬’s Pacific Heights district. Get ready for a moderate workout on this 3-hour hiking tour (don¬’t worry, the views are well worth it).

Following your guide, hike up the stairs and pause at the top to soak up sweeping views of the city spilling into San Francisco Bay. The domed Palace of Fine Arts punctuates this awesome vista.

You'll enter into the southeast corner of the Presidio, a massive park and former Spanish and American military base that¬’s now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. You¬’ll feel as if you¬’ve entered another world as you leave the urban hustle and bustle behind and begin hiking through a dense forest.

Take a stroll down Lover¬’s Lane, one of the oldest foot trails in the Presidio, nicknamed for the site where soldiers visited their sweethearts in the 1860s. Pass through the Tennessee Hollow Watershed, a historic eucalyptus forest and a grove of newly planted trees that merges into the Pacific Heights neighborhood, home to some of San Francisco's most magnificent homes.

Above Tennessee Hollow you¬’ll find Inspiration Point, a spectacular vantage point with fantastic views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, Angel Island, the Palace of the Fine Arts, rare serpentine grasslands and eucalyptus canopies.

Near here, your guide will point out a piece of natural art created by Andy Goldsworthy, famous around the world for interpreting the subtle shifts of place and time. Wood Line is a series of horizontal cypress trees snaking elegantly into the valley of the Tennessee Hollow Watershed.

In the northern center of the Presidio on a slope overlooking the bay lies San Francisco National Cemetery, a beautiful final resting place of more than 30,000 Americans including military veterans and their families. Explore this historic cemetery and hear stories from your guide about its interesting history and legends.

Continuing on another trail, your guide will point out another one of Andy Goldsworthy¬’s works. Spire, located on the Bay Area Ridge Trail near the Arguello Gate, is a sculpture comprised of 35 large cypress trunks fastened together, whose zenith reaches more than 90 feet (27 meters) into the sky.

Following Ecology Trail, journey through the Presidio¬’s largest redwood grove, and then visit Presidio Chapel, with it's beautiful stained-glass windows, Spanish Mission Revival architecture and spectacular views of the Bay.

Emerging out of the forest, your urban hike ends back at the Lyon Street Steps.

Your guide will point out other interesting locales along the way, such as buried ships and the stomping grounds of Bummer and Lazarus, San Francisco¬’s most famous dogs. If you¬’ve covered the city¬’s main attractions and you¬’re looking for something more off beat, this fun, unique San Francisco experience is perfect for you.

Meet at the Columbus Statue in front of Coit Tower in San Francisco¬’s Telegraph Hill neighborhood at 4pm. From here, your friendly, knowledgeable guide will lead you on a 3-hour walking tour in search of this neighborhood¬’s legendary parrot colony.

You¬’ll learn about this history of these unique birds -- primarily red-masked parakeets -- who call Telegraph Hill home. Descended from escaped or released pets, they've become a naturalized colony. You¬’ll also hear how these parrots have been the subject of books, news stories, travel guides and documentaries.

As you search for these famous feathered friends, be sure to listen for their distinctive call, your guide will point out interesting sights along the way, including buried ships, a redwood tree grove, the original San Francisco Bay waterline (hint: it¬’s not where you think) and the stomping grounds of Bummer and Lazarus, San Francisco¬’s most famous dogs who became canine celebrities in the 1860s.

If for some reason parrots aren¬’t sighted on your tour, you¬’ll be treated to your own DVD copy of The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill documentary to watch at home. Your Telegraph Hill walking tour ends at Sue Bierman Park.

Duration: 17 hours

In Northern California, few winter activities beat a ski trip to Lake Tahoe. The winter wonderland is situated roughly three hours from the San Francisco Bay Area, making for a perfect day trip minus one important detail¬—the dreaded drive to and from. Let someone else do the hard work for you as you sit back and relax on round-trip service by comfortable coach to your selected resort. Need skis or a snowboard? You can upgrade your experience to rent equipment and take lessons. Breakfast and snacks included.

Catch your ride in the early morning from your select location in San Francisco¬’s Design District, near Mission Bay. Your friendly driver assists you with loading your equipment, but that is the only work you will need to do on your approximately 3-hour ride up to Lake Tahoe¬’s world-class slopes.

One of the world¬’s top ski destinations, Lake Tahoe gets its name from a sparkling alpine lake nestled among lofty mountains and forests. In the winter, the giants that make up part of the Sierra Nevada range can receive upwards of 400 inches of powder, enticing locals and visitors alike with roller-coaster ski slopes and fun activities for all ages and fitness levels.

Get inspired for your day ahead¬—whether you prefer bunny slopes or black diamond trails¬—as you watch a ski film en route. If you¬’re still drowsy from the early morning departure, rest your eyes as your driver shuttles you to your choice of Heavenly, Squaw Valley or Northstar.

Along the way, take advantage of a continental breakfast to give you energy for your day ahead. Sink your teeth into a bagel with cream cheese or a muffin, and enjoy refreshing juice and yogurt.

Get curbside service at your selected resort, right as the doors open for the day. If you want, you can store personal items on the bus, but you won¬’t be able to access the bus again until it is time to leave. From there, hit the slopes with your lift ticket. For those who choose to rent equipment or take a 2-hour beginner¬’s lesson, go get outfitted for your day ahead.

In the late afternoon, re-board your coach for an easy ride back into the San Francisco area. If you worked up an appetite on the slopes, refresh with cookies and beverages along the way. Your driver will drop you at your designated location to finish your day trip to Tahoe.
