Location. The Victorian style Queen Anne Hotel (Calif.), located 15 miles from San Francisco International Airport, traces its origins to 1890 and is recognized in the Historic Western Addition. Centrally located, this distinguished boutique hotel is just blocks from Japantown, fine dining and shopping in both the Fillmore District and Union Square. Hotel Features. Today, the restored Queen Anne Hotel reflects a blend of turn of the century grace and elegance coupled with comfort and warm service. The hotel offers afternoon tea and sherry service for guests. This four story architectural treasure has an elevator, but does not offer air conditioning. Expert Tip. Built in 1890 by silver baron Senator James Fair, the Queen Anne Hotel was originally an etiquette school for girls. According to legend, it is still haunted by the ghost of Mary Lake, who was the school's superintendent and mistress of Senator Fair.
